Social Security Disability Claims Increase Your Chances of Benefits with a Legal Team

Personal injury cases

Many people in the United States are concerned about the future of Social Security benefits. This includes the benefits associated with retirement as well as disability. Furthermore, these benefits are rarely enough for retired or disabled persons to take care of their rent, house payment, or other basic needs.

In 2012, 5.7 million people began collecting Social Security benefits for the first time. Benefits were awarded in these separate categories:

  • Retired workers: 48%
  • Disabled workers: 17%
  • Survivors and dependents of deceased workers: 35%

Many older Americans need to continue working past retirement age. As a result, around half of their income is from SSA benefits. This was the case in 2013, where 64% of older beneficiaries were in this situation.

During 2014, there were 5.4 million people that began to receive Social Security benefits for the first time. The SSA administered several programs at that time which provided benefits to 64.2 million individuals throughout the country.

A 2014 Pew Research Center survey found that roughly half of all Gen Xers and Millennials don’t believe Social Security will be available for them when they retire. This was the case with 50% of Gen Xers and 51% of Millennials. While it’s not clear whether this will actually be the case, it s of great concern for these and other generations of adults.

Before they become 67, studies have shown that approximately 1 in 4 Americans that are currently 20 will become disabled. Since less than 1 in 4 Americans have the recommended 6 months of savings to cover expenses if an emergency should occur, becoming temporarily, or especially permanently, disabled can be a devastating situation.

It’s also been determined that more than half of the people in this country live from paycheck to paycheck. This accounts for 75% of Americans, 27% of whom don’t have any savings, much less the recommended 6-month of expense.
